About AFUWI

The American Foundation for The University of The West Indies (AFUWI) is proud of its history of transformational leadership, contribution to regional development and its commitment to economic and social advancement.

AFUWI seeks to transform the lives of exceptionally talented, young women and men who are in dire financial circumstances by providing access to higher education so they can break the cycle of generational poverty and make an economic impact in their local communities and throughout the Caribbean region.

Our Foundation seeks to be known for its transformational leadership, advocacy and facilitation of higher education as a pathway to progress in the Caribbean and the USA.

During the past 10+ years AFUWI has provided approximately 500 tuition scholarships to students across the Caribbean region, donated $7.5M in goods and brokered multiple relationships with other tier one institutions.

AFUWI is designated by the IRS as a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization. All contributions (cash or in-kind) are tax deductible to the full extent of state and federal laws.


About The UWI

For over 70 years The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has provided service and leadership to the Caribbean region and wider world. The UWI has evolved from a university college of London in Jamaica with 33 medical students in 1948 to an internationally respected, regional university with near 50,000 students and five campuses: Mona in Jamaica, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, Cave Hill in Barbados, Five Islands in Antigua and Barbuda and an Open Campus.
